The Green Book is an initiative of the Murrumbidgee Horticulture Council Inc supported by funding from the former NSW Environment Protection Authority. It is a voluntary guide identifying Best Management Practice (BMP) for horticulturists in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA).

The Green Book has been designed as a tool to enable horticulturalists to recognise and manage their impacts on the environment – both immediate and long-term, on farm and beyond.

The Green Book identifies:
  • environmental issues facing the MIA
  • potential impacts of horticulture on the environment
  • environmental obligations of horticulturists
  • environmental Best Management Practice (where known)
  • management strategies for improving environmental sustainability.
The Green Book was prepared in two parts. Part One is the Best Management Practice Guide and Checklist which is reproduced here for free.

Part Two is the Best Management Supporting Guide and is available from Murrumbidgee Horticulture Council at a cost of $20.00 plus postage – www.murrumbidgeehort.org.au or 02 6964 2420.

To assist horticulturists to achieve BMP, eight key areas of impact have been identified. By following the links to the right you will be presented with an overview of the issues for each area and specifically:
  • BMP Objectives
  • Key legislation and codes of practice
